The Straddie Hotel on Queensland’s North Stradbroke Island has reopened following a redevelopment that’s fit for a new era, but preserves the “unmistakable soul of the island”.
The beloved venue blends surf culture and relaxed island living, and remains a place for locals to gather or holidaymakers to return to year after year.
The Straddie Hotel General Manager Fenn McDonnell says the reopening has been about protecting everything locals and regulars love, while elevating the experience for a new generation.
“We’ve created a venue that’s relaxed, social and unmistakably Queensland – cold beer, great food, locally sourced produce, ocean views and that effortless island rhythm,” says McDonnell.
“Seeing people come back, reconnect and make fresh memories is what this moment is all about.”
The bistro menu celebrates classic pub fare with island flair and generous portions including island-sourced oysters and other fresh local seafood.
Highlights include fish tacos, prawn and bug cocktails and sweet–spicy chicken wings, alongside hand-stretched pizzas, and staples like chicken schnitzel, fish and chips, and burgers.
On the grill guests will find flame-grilled chicken and Black Angus rump, while lighter options include the daily market fish and summer bowls. A kiosk will open during the summer months for early morning breakfast staples and coffee.
Signature cocktails include the Straddie Island Iced Tea, Coco Margarita and a rotating slushie of the month. Local beer includes Sraddie Brewing Co plus a selection of wines.
The redevelopment introduces a collection of new and refreshed spaces, with an upper deck, second var, and reimagined bistro and main bar, as well as an expanded all-weather deck.
The Headland Room has been redeveloped as a beachfront space overlooking Cylinder Beach. It now hosts up to 120 seated or 250 cocktail-style. On select evenings, it will also open to the public.
The return of the The Straddie Hotel comes at an important time for North Stradbroke Island, injecting energy into local tourism and supporting businesses and jobs following recent cyclone impacts.
The Straddie Hotel Bistro is open 11.30am to 3pm, and the bar is open 10am until late.
