A Potts Point rooftop local has had a rebirth just in time for summer, bringing a Yucatán Twist to the neighbourhood.
Sweethearts Terraza, previously Sweethearts, opened this week after being “reimagined” for sun-soaked lunches, golden hour cocktails, and late-night dinners.
San Pancho Taqueria owner and chef Roberto García (ex-Alpha Sydney; Saffire Freycinet, Tasmania; and Sea Island Resort, Georgia, USA) created the Yucatán-inspired menu.
“For me, Yucatán is fire, citrus, and celebration,” says García.
“I wanted to bring those flavours to Sydney, not as a postcard, but as something alive and contemporary.
“The menu is fresh, visual, and designed to be shared, capturing the spirit of the Yucatán while feeling right at home on a Sydney rooftop.”
The menu captures the “soul” of modern Mexican cooking. Highlights include ceviche yucateco – barramundi with coconut milk, passionfruit, citrus, and habanero, finished with mango, onion, and crunchy maíz crackling; slow-braised beef short rib with a sour orange-honey glaze, served over roasted pumpkin purée; and tikin zic fish, a whole roasted barramundi marinated in citrus and annatto, served with charred lime, and pumpkin seed mole.
Neilson Braid (Maybe Frank, Maybe Sammy) has crafted a cocktail list that “brings Mexico’s bold sun-soaked spirit to life”.
“Mexico to me is a contrast of citrus, bright tropical fruits, and hot, smoky flavours- it’s that interplay that sets your taste buds alight,” says Braid.
Standouts include the Sol Fuego, featuring cilantro-infused tequila, fat-washed with chipotle; and the La Resurrecció, featuring achiote annatto and chipotle. For something lighter, the El Claro is a clarified margarita.
Caswell Group designed the freshly renovated space, blending Sydney’s open-air lifestyle with the energy of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. The interior has combined lush greenery, and coastal energy.
Sweethearts Terraza is open Wednesday to Friday from 5pm to 12am, and on the weekends from 12pm to 12am. Visit Sweethearts Terraza to book a table.
